Los embriones sobrantes (GRADO A-B) tras un proceso de Fertilización In Vitro, se congelan para su posterior utilización, en el tiempo previsto por la ley de reproducción. Así , en el supuesto de no quedar gestante en el proceso de FIV, congelariamos los embriones sobrantes no siendo necesario realizar un proceso completo de FIV. La preparacíon endometrial junto con la descongelacion y transferencia embrionaria completaria el proceso para conseguir una gestación.Los primeros casos de criopreservacion de embriones fueron publicados en 1983 por Trounson y Mohr en embriones con 4-6 celulas con DMSO ( dimetil-sulfóxido ) como crioprotector y mediante congelacion lenta . Con posterioridad se comenzo a utilizar propanediol y sacarosa como crioprotectores. Esta técnica de congelación lenta precisa de un sofisticado y costoso aparateje ademas de un proceso de ejecución superior a los 150 minutos.
Successful cryopreservation of human embryos was first reported in 1983 by Trounson and Mohr whith multicelullar embryos that had been slow-cooled .The cryopreservation of supernumerary embryos produced during human IVF provides an opportunity for patients to undergo repeated attempts at conception, following a single stimulation cycle. It also prevents from the wastage of valuable genetic material and improves cumulative pregnancy rates.
Supernumerary embryos (GRADE A-B) from a FIV procedure can be cryopreserved ( slow cooling ) for future use, within a period of time determined by Spanish reproduction law. In case the first FIV isn´t succesfull, we can try again with criopreserved embryos, without reestarting the whole cycle again. After endometrial preparation, thawed embryos (observed for 24 hours to determine their capacity and vitality) are transfered into the uterine cavity.
